Our favourite things to do around Sorrento

Sorrento

Sorrento is a beautiful and historic village that has retained much of its heritage in the form of the historic limestone buildings that line the main street. The village offers shopping that is stylish and sophisticated, with more than 60 retail outlets including boutiques, interior design stores, galleries and antique outlets. Naturally the cafes, restaurants, local produce stores and designer ice-cream are superb.

Stunning Beaches

Sorrento Back Beach - Sorrento Back Beach is located around 1.5km south of the town of Sorrento. The beach is a popular location for activities such as surfing, swimming, walking and exploring the rockpools at low tide.

Sorrento Front Beach - A beautiful narrow beach suitable for a paddle or swim. Sandy beach and clear waters to watch the fish go by. Bring a snorkel for a closer look. A charming beach with mature trees lining the road and a relaxing area to watch the ferry coming and going every hour.

Koonya Beach - On the ocean side of the peninsula, this stunning beach is the perfect beach for picnic, rockpooling or photography, but perhaps not the safest for swimming as their is no lifesaving station here.

Cellar Doors & Breweries

Not only does the peninsula renowned for its amazing wines, but never before has there been such a selection of breweries and distilleries to visit and sample on the Peninsula in family-fun inviting places, allowing you to kick-back and enjoy a cool cider, beer or spirit.

One of our team favourite's is St Andrews Beach Brewery - In the mid-2000’s the property was a working race horse training facility housing up to 80 thoroughbred horses and featured its own 1,200 metre grassed training track. After a significant facelift, the centre of the old horse training facility is where you will find a truly unique brewery. The stables, that were once home to some incredible racing pedigree have been converted into sitting areas. Visitors can now relax in a past Melbourne Cup winners box while enjoying freshly brewed characterful beers, something to eat and even better conversations. Located only a 4 minute drive from our stunning Ocean Luxe Retreat at St Andrews Beach, why not make a night of it....35 mins walking if you are having more than one!

Mr Little and Peninsula Cider - Mr Little and Peninsula Cider are an award winning small local producer of handcrafted apple ciders and perry's. Mr Little and Peninsula Cider also have a range of fruit ciders such as Mango and Lime, Spiced, Ginger, Blackcurrant and Strawberry and Lime.
Mr Little and Peninsula Cider proudly use only Australian fruit and source it from the Mornington Peninsula and surrounds. The cellar door is open Friday to Sunday 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Favourite Eateries

One of life's greatest pleasures on the Mornington Peninsula is exploring, discovering and sampling all the delicious secrets on offer at all of the region's wineries, restaurants, cellar doors and cafes.

The Vanilla Slice Cafe Sorrento - The Vanilla Slice Cafe is nestled in main street Sorrento with a limestone façade and old-fashioned charm, the Vanilla Slice Café looks like it’s straight out of the Edwardian era. But the vanilla slice? It’s completely out of this world.
Enjoy it paired with a specially blended coffee that has been created explicitly to be the perfect complement.  Since 1983, this beloved spot has been offering up creamy slices of heaven and a menu full of other sweet treats and savoury scrummy-ness.

St Pauls Road General Store - "The best coffee and burgers on the Peninsula" according to Trip advisor

All Smiles Sorrento Ocean Beach - Another cafe with great reviews

Shop With The Makers And The Creators

Portsea Market - At the Portsea Market the almost 230 stallholders are masters of their trade, all products offered being expertly made and professionally presented with an essence of the maker’s humility evident.

Original Jewellery designs make a perfect gift ready to wrap. Manchester of various textures and colours to suit a wide range of tastes and homes. A whole range of exciting foods and beverages are represented, all fresh and tempting.

Expect seasonal injections of local fruits and benches full of home grown vegetables. A huge selection of unique culinary delights make a mouth watering taste feast. Parking is simple, straight forward and close by. Stallholders are renowned for their hospitality, so leaving full shopping bags for last minute pickup is usually no problem.

Over the years these markets have become a meeting place for people from all walks of life as there is a marvelous variety of food to sample in a cheerful atmosphere and an extraordinarily wide selection of high quality crafts to buy.

The Point Nepean Portsea Market is at the historic Quarantine Station by the beach.

Local Walks & Spectacular Scenery

Millionaires Walk Portsea - This stunning cliff top walk has historic significance as it was the first time the Union Jack was used to claim possession of Australia. The breathtaking water views across Port Phillip to the Bellarine Peninsula, Melbourne and Mount Dandenong are amazing. Also you will get an insight into how Melbourne's elite spend time at their summer mansions.  Millionaires Walk makes up a small part of the Sorrento Portsea Artists’ Trail, with four of the fourteen sites that comprise the trail located along Millionaires Walk. Paintings by Sir Arthur Streeton, Arthur Boyd and Ray Hodgkinson are displayed along the walk.

Point Nepean National Park Trails - The Point Nepean National Park is a mix of beautiful landscape and rich history situated at the southern tip of the Mornington Peninsula. There is a range of informative and scenic walks visitors can explore, and an array of historic buildings that served various purposes during the early history of the Mornington Peninsula. Point Nepean also offers some of the best views on the Mornington Peninsula across to Queenscliff and out the Port Phillip Bay Heads.

Tuckey Track - Crossing from one side of the peninsula to the other, this walk starts at the Western Sister headland of Sullivan Bay, Sorrento, then takes you through a Coastal Moonah Woodland habitat and the Tuckey Track Bushland Reserve, past Diamond Bay to finish at St Paul's Lookout at Bass Strait. The walk is mostly flat, with gently undulating sections, with a steep rise to St Paul's Lookout.
The Tuckey Track is an interesting walk through history as it follows in the footsteps of Lieutenant James Tuckey who wrote 'An Account of a Voyage to Establish a Colony at Port Phillip'. This account provided valuable information about the convict settlement and the landscape in 1804.
