Mornington Peninsula visitors tell Holiday Shacks what is so special about the Peninsula...
I always think to myself when I'm on the Mornington Peninsula - why aren't I living here? I love the pace of life, love the produce, love the kids activities. In fact I've got both an anniversary (winery) and boys weekend (golf) coming up and Mornington Peninsula is my number one thought and like the song goes - 'you were always on my mind, you were always on my mind.' The walking tracks and finest seascapes at Mornington Peninsula National Park, wine tasting in one the wineries, picking my own berries at one of the many farms, swimming with dolphins from Sorrento, the galleries & craft markets at Red Hill and Mornington, cliff-top walks at Portsea, taking a dip in the sea, the finest cafes and restaurants and just getting away from it all without being too far from home in Melbourne. Mornington Peninsula - a true discovery...
The Mornington Peninsula, with its natural beauty, is one of the most treasured getaway locations in Victoria.
Likened to the Italian Riviera, it hosts the most magnificent swimming and surfing beaches and dramatic coastal scenery.
The spectacular coastline can be enjoyed from many of the 19 world-class golf courses, wineries, coastal walks or villages across the hamlets. Some of the more famous hamlets include the seaside villages of Mt Martha, Portsea and Sorrento, a playground for the well heeled. While others such as Red Hill and Arthurs Seat, offer escape from the buzz to discover farmlands and historic stone clad buildings host to art galleries, local gourmet produce and the best views across the Bay. The unique marina at Martha Cove offers a new destination for holiday makers wishing to stay in resort style luxury.
No matter where you choose to stay, each township has its rewards and discovery is easy, with only 10 minutes drive between each.
The Mornington Peninsula is host to a number of exciting events on the Victorian calendar, including the bi-annual Australian Golf Open Championship.
Visiting one of the many top class wineries and restaurants should be on the must do list during your stay. Renown for its Pinot and Chardonnay this area is fast gaining world recognition in these grape varieties.
For families the list is endless. Outdoor water sports and activities in summer line the beaches, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, horse trekking are popular, as is the trip on the Queenscliff Car Ferry from Sorrento across the mouth of the Bay. Capture the essence of the entire Bay in a Day on this journey. Sailings are regular.
There are so many things to see and do that a single visit does not quite capture the best of the Mornington Peninsula. Perhaps that is why most of our guests find themselves returning again and again. Get ready to be in love for a long, long time....
